Kumarakom - Walkover in Paradise

An enchanting cinch in the lap of mother nature, Kumarakom is a an excellent backwater country not too far away from Trivandrum. A quick boat ride into the serene countryside will offer you a close look of the laid back village life. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
A major attraction and a fete for wildlife enthusiasts is the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary which echoes with the soothing chirps of a variety of avian metropolis that includes an assortment of migratory birds travelling to the place from thousands of miles away. Some of the prominent avian residents to be found here include Darters, Bitterns, Marsh Harries and Teals etc. A cruise along the backwaters is the perfect way to spot and photograph some exotic winged creatures.

The Vembanad Lake
Kottayam is composed of an extensive mesh of rivers, streams and canals which empties into the huge expanse of water known as the Vembanad Lake. The shimmering waters of the lake make an ideal backwater country and an exhilarating picnic spot with endless opportunities of boating, fishing and rubber-necking.

Thirunakkara Mahadevar Temple
Placed in the heart of Kottayam town, the imposing structure is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in typical Keralan style of architecture, the temple is noted for the traditional Sanskrit drama, Kootiattam, which is witnessed by a large number of people. Another important pilgrimage centre is the St. Mary's Orthodox Church known for its 400 year old paintings.

Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls
The water cascading down from a height of 100 ft. makes a thunderous noise as it spellbinds the visitors with this amazing showcase of nature. The place makes an ideal picnic spot where streams make their way tinkling through the landscape.

Pathiramanal
Pathiramanal is an enchanting island in the middle of the Vembanad lake. An exciting boat ride through the silvery waters of the lake takes you to the island which is a favourite haunt for a plethora of species of migratory birds coming here from around the globe.
