Proceed in the afternoon to visit the famous Meenakshi temple of Madurai. The temple, built by Kulasekara Pandeya, is enclosed within high walls at the core of it can be seen the holy sanctums for Shiva and Parvati. The 12 gopuras have huge towers that rise up to the heavens and covered with beautiful murals of deities painted in vivid colors. It is also sometimes known as the temple of pillars with an incredible 1000 pillars in total.
