Cochin,
also known as Kochi, is a bustling and vibrant city situated on the
south west coast of India in 'God's Own Country', Kerala. Cochin's
strategic location and the regular influx of tourists and traders for
centuries have earned it the sobriquet 'Queen of the Arabian Sea' and
'Gateway to Kerala'. It is one of the few cities in India to have kept
alive the remains of colonial rule beneath layers of time and
modernization, visible in the form of bright neon lights, dimly lit
seamen's bars and big hotels of Ernakulam. Here you can witness the
oldest church in India, centuries old Portuguese houses, exotic Chinese
fishing nets standing tall on the sea coast, a Portuguese palace housing
some of the most beautiful murals, world renowned kathakali dance form
and much more.
Take
some time to relax, after which we move on for an extensive sightseeing
tour of Cochin city. Our Cochin extravaganza sweeps all corners of the
city entailing sites such as the Jewish Synagogue, Mattancherry Palace,
Chinese fishing nets lined along the Vasco Da Gama square, Santa Cruz
Basilica, St. Francis Church, Bastion Bungalow etc. Other historical
sites and quality restaurants in Fort Cochin and Mattancherry are also a
part of the itinerary. The Chinese fishing nets strung on bamboo poles
work on the principle of balance and are said to be seen only here
outside of China.
